In order to appropriate the least amount of stress possible, we have decided to assign a very simple task to be done throughout the summer. Furthermore, we decided that it was very important for the assignment to be crafted so that it would benefit Yearbook in some way. Therefore, simply put, the assignment consists only of two things – pictures and captions.
The assignment is to create FIVE different captions for five different pictures. The pictures can be photographs that you have taken during the summer, or they can be photographs from ten years ago. The subject matter of the photographs is also unimportant. However, the ability to write a certain description of a picture in a mere few words or phrases is very important to our contribution (as the style staff) to the yearbook; thus, it does make some sense to assign this extremely simple task. We don't expect this assignment to take a long time; just set aside an hour or two collecting or taking five pictures of your choice and coming up with (admittedly well-thought-out) captions for them. It is advised that you revisit past yearbooks – preferably the 2008-09 yearbook – for inspiration or guidance regarding how to write captions. Furthermore, the Internet is undoubtedly abundant with guides on how to write captions.
So, to recap: the assignment consists of only one task – creating FIVE captions for five different pictures. Hope you have fun for the rest of your summer!
